While working from home is less expensive for a company, why do employers not encourage working out of the office?

Companies worry about productivity and data breach.

They think they if employees will work from home always, they will not work as hard as they would while at the office.

And second, many large companies are really worried about their data. They think that if their employees will access company data outside, data migh

t leak and it cause monetary damages in thousands of crores.

So, that is why most companies do not allow work from home unless very critical.

As far as I can determine working from home applies only to information workers.

The system setup cost is expensive in time and often in hardware and software and other expenses. Another is that a level of trust in the sustained competency and/or consistency of the telecommuter takes a long time to develop if remote work is to become SOP. Finally, the people who have been telecommuting all along, demonstrated the need for some interaction with other employees at the water cooler, for example, at least some time and that need must be factored into the project.

Some inexperienced managers perhaps have not yet developed skills along the lines of accurately measuring their employee’s performance and would be therefore hesitant toward letting their people work remotely. Managers need to know what each employee is doing, how they are doing it, and have the necessary means to make general assessments. They also need to maintain good interpersonal relationships with their workers, which includes complete trust and excellent communication.

There are all kinds of persistent biases about where, when, and how work gets done. For example part-time workers are often treated as though they are less committed.

I think most employers who do not support working from home are concerned with supervising employees. They may also believe that physical separation interferes with teamwork.
